Young people making a difference in the inner west

MAD YOUTH is a group of passionate 15 – 24 year olds from the inner west of Melbourne with the aim of making a difference in their community.

Youth unemployment, the refugee crisis, environmental issues and mental health are our four key pillars of focus, which we feel are prominent in the minds of young people today.

Through events, fundraising and community projects, we aim to create greater awareness around these key areas and make a difference today and in the future.

In our first year, we have focused on building our foundations and making connections. We wanted to have a clear consensus on what we felt was vital top work on and how to engage with people and groups in the inner west to fit under our four pillars.

Through fundraising opportunities at the Footscray Finds Market and West Footscray Roosters Football Club, we have been able to support the following community campaigns –

  • Share the Dignity’s “It’s in the Bag” campaign
  • West Footscray Roosters Football Club “All Aboard Fund”
  • Asylum Seeker Resource Centre’s first visit to an AFL game
  • Community screening of the film “2040” at the Sun Theatre
  • Launch of the Inner West Community Bike Hub
  • R U OK? Day

“Personally, I’ve enjoyed the connections I’ve made not just within MAD Youth but outside the group. I’ve enjoyed hearing what the youth in our community are passionate about and how, as a group, we can help our peers. ” – Anaya
