Great to hear that the Westgate Concert Band has obtained the rights to perform Holst’s “The Planets”, thanks to the funding they received from Pitch Partners at Community Pitch 2019 in May.

“We had a very successful pitch night and thanks to the generous donations, we have been able to purchase the full military concert band score of Holst’s ‘The Planets’ suite” said Ann.  “The band has now started rehearsals and expanding the skills of our players and our planning is well underway with Scienceworks. We have set the date and are working through the finer details of the event.”

Holst’s suite was written by the British composer from 1914 – 1916, representing all the known planets of the solar system seen from Earth at that time including Mars – the Bringer of War, Venus – the Bringer of Peace, Mercury – the Winged Messenger, Jupiter – the Bringer of Jollity and Saturn – the Bringer of Old Age.

With the huge amount of planning, energy and support that has already gone into the event, it is sure to be one not to be missed!
