Event Details

The Seddon Boomerang Bags Community Sewing Bees are held once a month on an evening (2019 dates TBC). We create cloth shopping bags from upcycled and donated materials, to distribute to traders in Seddon Village. The bags are offered to shoppers, to use instead of single use bags – plastic or paper.

The idea is the bags are returned (hence the name Boomerang!) but this is not always possible and as long as the bags continue to be used in place of single use bags, we’re helping! But it does mean that we need to continue to create a supply of bags for traders – and that’s why we need your help! Our sewing bees are a social event, and no help is too small.

We really welcome everyone, as there’s lots of things to help with, even for non-sewers. And it’s a great way to meet new people in the area. Join us and help out with tracing patterns, cutting fabric, ironing, stamping, pinning, sewing, eating cake and drinking tea… – whatever you’re comfortable with.

No experience needed. From ninja sewers to crafter-wanna-be, everyone is welcome. What to bring (if you have any of these, otherwise just bring yourself): sewing machine and/or second-hand fabrics to donate (e.g. old bedsheets, curtains, material cutoffs). And if you can bake – we won’t say no to something to share!
